Before I came to the mountains and coastal rainforest of Ecuador, I spent over two decades working in western healthcare as a registered nurse and supervisor. It was a long chapter defined by crisis management and physical safety, but it was ultimately just a single piece of the puzzle. Holding down an anchor for others in the external world couldn't stop my own internal world from fracturing, and I eventually hit a massive Dark Night of the Soul. The noise of everything I had built, survived, and been told to be simply became too loud to ignore.
